oustourced marketing for technology companies

Outsourced Marketing – Can it provide a cost effective solution for your company's marketing needs?

If you run an overstretched marketing department then outsourcing some, or all, of the marketing activities can be a cost effective way of managing a changing workload without the commitment of extra staff. Even if you don't 'do marketing' you probably do, it's just you don't formalise it as that and you probably waste a lot of your own valuable time on it when you could be doing other things!

Because marketing is multi-disciplined and no two days require the same experience and knowledge it can be difficult to employ one or two people who can do everything well. Experience of managing a beautifully crafted and produced printed magazine requires different skills to collecting customer requirements and producing an outline product spec or defining and implementing an internet strategy.

In larger companies this is less of an issue as large departments can exist with specialists for each of the areas. If you are a small or medium sized business and have a small marketing staff and budget, or you do it all yourself, then it is simply not possible to get the right level of experience and knowledge for each of the tasks at reasonable costs. You will either have to employ one very experienced, and probably expensive, marketing person who will be getting bored of the mundane work and not be able to work on more valuable strategic marketing or a junior marketing manager who simply does not have the experience to implement all the required tasks to create a comprehensive marketing strategy and has no one to act as a mentor for them.

Outsourcing some, or all, of your marketing activities means that whatever resource you have already can be effectively utilised and new projects can be undertaken as and when necessary by appropriately experienced staff.

If your marketing department consists of one senior marketing director then they will want to be focussing their attention on strategic issues and customer facing activities. It is simply not cost effective to have a highly paid member of the management team performing day to day marketing admin. Therefore using an outsourced department will enable the implementation of plans by appropriately trained staff who specialise in that particular activity.

If you have a less experienced marketing manager then outsourcing can provide them with both an experienced mentor to help guide and train them and a team of support staff to help with implementation of marketing activities.

If you have no marketing then outsourcing marketing completely means that you have a totally flexible and experienced staff to help you implement pragmatic and sensible marketing plans that will focus on generating incoming cash flow, the purpose of all marketing activities.
